Hilly Billy Roubaix 2012, Idea

Pat, Sug and I got crazy excited about Roubaix racing after following some of the spring classics this year.  We were like "we need a Roubaix".  Pat did some fishing, "Oh yeah, there's this race in WV".  The closest Roubaix is 3.5 hours away.... close enough!  Its the 2012 Hilly Billy Roubaix.  We started watching the videos they posted, reading results saying that the winner (Mike Mihalik) avg'd 16.7mph last year, and reading blog posts by Gunner Shogren, Roger Masse, and analyzing Strava output from Bernie Shaio (last years SS winner).  "Oh man this is gonna be awesome!... unless we flat".  This is gonna suck if we drive all that way out there and flat.  Time to search for bomb proof tires.  So we searched and BAM! Here it is, the Continental CX Plus.  800 grams per tire of unbeatable flat protection!  Now we must test it... (next post).

  1. I think that our tire choice for this race was spot on! So many people had flats out there but all 3 of us were 100% flat free!

I was envious of your tubless setup though, hopefully next time I will be able to run that.
